Fell Running and Orienteering Equipment

RUNNING is widely regarded as one of the best ways to get fit, or maintain fitness. But it can also be one of the most dull - unless you've discovered Orienteering or fell running. The attraction of fell running is that it takes you completely off road and into remote locations which provide their own unique challenges, keeping you quite literally on your toes at all times. It is very important to have the right Fell Running Shoes. Good support and grip are important features of Fell shoes.

It probably goes without saying that the most important piece of fell running & orienteering equipment is a pair of fell running & orienteering shoes. They go one step further than regular running shoes in terms of low weight and flexibility.

Durability is a key attribute of good fell running shoes. After all, because they're going off road, they're likely to face much tougher challenges than the odd wobbly kerb.

As they are the key piece of fell running equipment, many manufacturers have invested a lot of money in developing their orienteering shoes. Traditional leather has given way for a synthetic suede, or alternatively you can try the hardwearing PVC type. There are hybrids of the two types, too.

The most important thing is to find a pair of shoes you feel comfortable in. They need to provide protection from the terrain around you, and all the orienteering footwear in our range will stand up to the tests even the toughest routes created by Mother Nature will throw up!

Once you have your orienteering shoes sorted, you should choose other equipment based largely on what your requirements are. If your fell running is more likely to be marathon running, you should consider a water carrier which can enable you to keep an intake of water going throughout a race.

Clothing is another very important aspect of equipment purchase, particularly if you are running in high altitudes. Advice from those who have been there before you is vital before you begin buying fell running equipment, and we stock a full range of fleeces, waterproofs and other clothing accessories.

As with most supports, a wide range of other equipment is available for fell running. Maps, compasses and bags are other items which are very important if running alone for long periods of time. At the same time, monitoring your performance may be of particular importance to you, which is why we stock a wide selection of pedometers and heart rate monitors.
