Compasses for Orienteering & Mountaineering
After analysis of elite performance during orienteering competition we know that the most common reason why runners miss their controls is that they lose concentration, which results in going in the wrong direction! Loss of concentration can be caused by distractions in your surroundings such as other competitors, thoughts about how you are going to win (or lose) and lack of confidence in the accuracy of your bearing.Mistakes also occur when you trust the map too much and fail to check on your direction. You run a little bit too far, lose your direction at terrain obstacles or make a parallel error. |

Club Clothing & OL Suits for Orienteering
Silva orienteering clothing is famous for its quality, durability and stunning designs, setting it apart from other club suits. Silva employ the strictest quality control standards I know of in the manufacture of their clothing, using only top quality materials and production techniques. My own Silva suit looks good after years of regular use and machine washing. |

Footwear for Orienteering & Fell running
The selection of shoes for orienteering and fell running can be quite bewildering. The choice used to be soft lightweight fell shoes made of leather (more recently of a synthetic suede) or the hardwearing re-inforced PVC type. Now there is a third type falling somewhere in between, the uppers are very soft but durable, a popular shoe in this catagory would be the Jalas Black, a shoe that I have used since the British champs two years ago and have been very pleased with the performance. |

Heart Rate Monitors (HRM) & Watches
Heart Rate MonitorsPOLARIf you're healthy, you want to stay that way. And that means an active life. Exercise helps you reduce weight, fight stress and build a stronger heart. It can be hard to exercise in a busy life which is where Polar comes in. A Polar HRM cuts out the guesswork, telling you how hard to exercise - and for how long. You'll work at a pace that's safe for your body, gaining maximum benefit in minimum time. All Polar HRM's use a light weight chest belt which picks up electronic signals from the heart and transmits them to the wrist watch receiver to display them. |

Water Carriers
Whether you are pushing your body to the limit or undertaking normal training and exercise you need a nutritional strategy that will give your body the energy, nutrients and fluid it needs. Fluid loss can have a dramatic effect on performance. Research has shown as much as a 20% reduction in performance for only a 2% loss of body fluid mass.Water carriers can be used to carry plain water or a range of beneficial electrolyte and carbohydrate drinks. Recovery can be boosted by regular uptake of fluids during and immediately after exercise. |
